1.Zirconium sponge is also called zirconium metal; it is a silver-grey and lustrous metal which looks like steel;
2.It is an active metal which can form oxide films at room temperature, and is highly resistant to corrosion;
3.Zirconium has extremely high hardness and strength, and has good mechanical property and thermal conductivity; it also has excellent luminescence property;
4.Zirconium metal has a low thermal neutron absorption cross section, which makes it have excellent nuclear properties;
5.Zirconium can easily absorb hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen, and has a strong affinity for oxygen; at 1,000℃, oxygen can significantly increase the volume of zirconium by dissolving in it;
6.Zirconium is relatively stable in air, while zirconium powder can easily ignite; thin zirconium wire can be ignited using matches; it can be directly combined with oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen that dissolves in it at high temperature. Zirconium can easily emit electron at high temperature.
